Blueberry Smoothie Recipe Without Yogurt – Delicious & Dairy-free!

Looking for a delicious blueberry smoothie recipe without yogurt? I’ve got you!

A few weeks ago, I was prepping workplace wellness handouts for a workshop I delivered near Toronto. I was presenting on the basics or building blocks of smoothies where I covered tips and tricks on how to turn a smoothie into a satisfying, satiating meal.

I scanned my recipe archives for smoothies to include, and realized that I haven’t posted very many smoothie recipes over the past 4 years!

Smoothies are a real and regular part of my diet so it’s a bit of a crime that I haven’t shared many.

So, to fix the serious smoothie recipe shortage around here, I thought I would share another one of my long-time favourites: The Blue Ginger.

(Sounds a bit like a rock band, no? Well, I have been known to play the harmonica, from time to time… though not very well… if it counts?)

I wrote in my recipe notes that I first developed this blueberry ginger smoothie in December 2013. And the truth is, I’ve been enjoying it ever since.

Blueberries + ginger + a hidden mild green (spinach) = what’s not to love? It’s a creamy blueberry smoothie recipe without yogurt. But you’d never know there wasn’t any dairy in it!

This blueberry smoothie recipe without yogurt is dairy-free AND rich and creamy thanks to the add banana. The banana also offers some sweetness, which we love in our smoothies, don’t we?

Nutritional Benefits of Hemp Hearts

I love adding hemp hearts to this blueberry smoothie recipe without yogurt because of their complete protein.

Hemp hearts, also known as shelled hemp seeds, are a nutritional powerhouse! These small seeds are packed with essential nutrients.

Here’s a breakdown of some of their many health benefits:

  • Hemp hearts contain all nine essential amino acids, making them a complete protein source.
  • Their protein is more easily digested than many other plant-based options like nuts, seeds, and legumes.
  • Hemp hearts have an ideal 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids, which is optimal for heart and brain health.
  • Hemp hearts can help improve cholesterol levels and reduce blood pressure thanks to their omega fatty acids and amino acid profile.
  • They are packed with vitamins like magnesium (supports muscle and nerve function, as well as promotes relaxation), iron (essential for oxygen transport and energy production), zinc (boosts immune function and supports wound healing), and vitamin E (an antioxidant that protects cells from damage).
  • High protein and healthy fat content can help stabilize blood sugar levels and prevent energy crashes.

If you don’t have hemp hearts, you can easily replace them with collagen or another clean protein powder. By clean protein powder, I mean free of added sugars, artificial flavours and other ingredients we want to avoid.

Here is the blueberry ginger smoothie (The Blue Ginger) for your smoothie-making fun!

Blue Ginger Smoothie

A smoothie that is sweet and a little spicy – and a super simple way to wake up your taste buds in the morning! It also contains fresh spinach (though it’s easily hidden for pickier eaters) and hemp hearts for a boost of plant-based protein.

More Smoothie Recipes

Looking for more recipes like this blueberry ginger smoothie?

I have only posted two smoothie recipes in my recipe archives on this site.

These are my Cool as a Cucumber Smoothie and my Lean, Mean Peaches and Green Smoothie.

Both were posted in 2014, both contain avocado and both are quite green! Now some of us love our green smoothies but just as many of us, don’t!

I also have my Apple Pie of My Eye Smoothie Bowl. However, you should consume this slowly and deliberately, so I don’t think it falls into the grab-and-go smoothie category.

So now we’re up to a total of 3+1 smoothies on this site. Not BAD, eh?

More to come… stay tuned!

Life is a plate… Eat up!
