Grief is weird. It doesn’t follow a schedule, it doesn’t care about you, and it definitely doesn’t care that you have to work on Monday.
Whether you’re mourning the death of someone you love, the end of a relationship, a career that once lit you up, or a version of yourself you’ve had to leave behind, loss and grief have a way of stopping everything and asking you to look at your life differently. From the inside out.
Probably all of us have experienced the emotional side of grief. The crying, the anger, the numbness, the weird moments of laughing at something and then feeling guilty about it. What gets talked about less often is the deeper layer underneath all that. It’s the part that’s asking: Who am I now? What does any of this mean? What’s next for me?
That’s exactly where spiritual counseling for loss, grief and life transitions steps in. And honestly? It can change everything!
So… What Is Spiritual Counseling?
I see spiritual counseling as a holistic approach to healing that goes beyond your thoughts and feelings. Indeed, it’s meant to work with your whole self, including your energy, your soul, and your deeper sense of purpose and legacy.
Unlike traditional therapy (which tends to focus on your mind and behaviours… and is absolutely valuable), spiritual counseling believes you’re more than just your psychology. You’re an energetic, spiritual being having a very human experience. And sometimes, healing asks us to work at that deeper level.
A spiritual counselor might draw on tools like:
- Intuitive guidance or Akashic Records readings (more on this later; it’s one of my favourites!).
- Energy healing (another one of my favs!).
- Ancestral healing and pattern clearing.
- Mindfulness, meditation, and breathwork.
- Life purpose and soul path exploration.
The beautiful thing about spiritual counseling is that it doesn’t require you to follow any particular religion or belief system. Some of my clients are devout Christians; some are not. I even have a few agnostic clients. My brand of spiritual counseling for loss, grief and life transitions meets you where you are and empowers you to reconnect with your own inner wisdom, that deep knowing inside you that sometimes gets buried under all the noise of life.
A note from me: I want to be upfront that spiritual counseling isn't a replacement for therapy or mental health care, and I'll always say so! If you're in crisis or dealing with acute mental health concerns, please work with a licensed therapist first. Spiritual counseling works beautifully alongside therapy, though. Think of it as two very complementary modalities. 🧡
Grief Requires You to Do More Than Just “Process Feelings”
The thing that nobody really tells you about grief is that it’s not just an emotion to work through. At its deepest level, grief is an identity crisis.
When you lose something or someone significant like a loved one, a relationship, a job, a dream, your health, or even an old version of yourself, you’re not just coping with pain. You’re being asked to rebuild your entire understanding of who you are and what your life is about.
That’s huge. And therapy, as wonderful as it is, isn’t always set up to hold the really big existential questions that loss, grief or major life transitions kick up, such as:
- Why did this happen to me?
- Is there some other meaning to this, or is it just random?
- Who am I without this person, this role, or this identity?
- What am I (and/or my soul) actually trying to learn here?
- What do I want my life to look like on the other side of this?
Spiritual counseling is built for exactly these questions. It doesn’t try to rush you through grief or “fix” it. Instead, it holds space for the whole messy, tender, profound experience.
Spiritual counseling for loss, grief and life transitions helps you find your way through in a way that actually feels meaningful to you.
Using the Akashic Records as a Unique Tool for Grief and Healing
Okay, let’s talk about the Akashic Records. If you’re new to this concept, it might sound a little out there, and I want to demystify it!
The Akashic Records are an energy field of every soul’s journey, including your past, your present, and the potential paths of your future. Think of them like a vibrational archive or your soul’s personal blueprint. Practically, they hold information about your patterns, your purpose, your relationships, and the deeper why behind your experiences.
When I work with clients in the Akashic Records during a spiritual counseling session, we’re able to access insight that goes way beyond what the logical mind can figure out on its own. It’s like having a GPS for your soul. The Akashic Records can help you understand why certain patterns keep showing up, what your current experience is asking of you, and where you want to go next.
Specific Ways the Akashic Records Can Help with Loss, Grief and Life Transitions
For grief, loss and life transitions specifically, the Akashic Records can be transformative because they can help you:
- Understand the soul-level meaning of the loss or transition (Why is this happening now? What is it opening me to?).
- Identify and clear energetic patterns or beliefs that are keeping you stuck in grief.
- Heal ancestral wounds that your current loss may be activating (more on this below).
- Get clear on your soul’s path forward, not just logistically, but energetically.
- Feel more connected to your loved ones who have passed, at a soul level.
I use the Akashic Records in my spiritual counseling for loss, grief and life transitions because it provides the kind of deep, meaningful insight that fast-tracks healing and clarity. And to be clear, the Akashic Records are not about fortune-telling or giving you all the answers. They simply help you access your own wisdom more fully.

Your info is safe with me. I will guard it with my life and promise no spam, ever. I genuinely hate it as much as you do!
I was honestly very skeptical of the Akashic Records when I first encountered them. (Hi, recovering skeptic over here!) But after my first Akashic reading, I was floored by how accurate and deeply resonant the insights were. It's now one of the tools I turn to most often, both in my own life and in my work with clients.
How Spiritual Counseling Supports You Through Loss, Grief & Life Transitions
So, let’s get specific. Here’s what spiritual counseling for loss, grief and life transitions can actually look like.
1. Making Space for the Big Spiritual Questions
When someone we love passes, or when we go through a major loss, it’s completely natural to find yourself asking questions like: Where did they go? Is there something beyond this life? Can I still connect to them? (In fact, I asked some of these very questions as my dad was dying of early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease, and that eventually led me to the Akashic Records.)
These questions are deeply human. But they can sometimes feel awkward or out of place in a conventional therapy setting.
Spiritual counseling creates a safe, open container to ask and explore these and other questions.
Through Akashic Records sessions, we can explore your beliefs about the soul’s journey, work with the energetic presence of loved ones who have passed, and find a sense of peace and continued connection that feels real and grounded.
2. Getting Unstuck (Because Grief Can Get Stuck in the Body)
Grief isn’t just mental. It lives in your body, in your chest, your throat, your gut, and many other places! Fatigue, physical tension, emotional numbness, or that feeling of being “frozen” are all physical examples of unprocessed grief.
Energy healing and Akashic Records work can help shift things at a level that talking alone sometimes can’t reach. When we work on the energetic layer of grief, we often start to feel lighter and more able to breathe again. Especially when we clear what’s stuck, release what no longer belongs to us, etc. Not because the grief disappears, but because it starts shifting instead of sitting like a boulder on your chest.
3. Healing Grief That Isn’t Even Yours
Here’s something wild that comes up in Akashic Records work all the time: sometimes the grief you’re carrying isn’t only your own.
We inherit emotional patterns from our families and ancestral lines. This includes grief that was never fully processed by the generations before us. The death of a parent might activate layers of grief passed down for decades. A miscarriage or abortion might affect the fertility of a woman four generations down the line. A relationship might echo patterns of loss or abandonment that have run through your family for generations.
The Akashic Records are particularly powerful for this kind of ancestral healing, because they can help us identify exactly where these patterns originated, understand why they’ve persisted, and consciously release them. And you’re not just releasing them for yourself, but for your whole lineage. (And yeah, it’s as powerful as it sounds!)
Side note: Ancestral healing has been some of the most profound work I've witnessed in my practice. Clients often come in carrying grief or pain that feels "too big" for their own lifetime. When we clear that ancestral energy, the shift can be immediate and deeply felt.
4. Finding Meaning and Purpose
Okay, I want to be real about this one. Has anyone ever said to you, everything happens for a reason? I don’t know about you, but this can be one of the most unhelpful things anyone could ever say when you’re in pain.
Spiritual counseling for loss, grief and life transitions is NOT about diminishing your suffering or rushing you to find the silver lining.
Even so, meaning-making is a real and important part of healing. When you’re ready, and only when you’re ready, spiritual counseling can help you start to ask: What is this experience asking of me? What is it opening up, even as it closes something else?
The Akashic Records are a beautiful tool for this. It doesn’t aim to judge your pain or try to minimize it. They offer a wider perspective, a soul-level view of your experience, and this can make room for both your grief AND your growth.
Spiritual Counseling for Life Transitions (Not Just Death and Loss)
I want to pause here and say something important: you don’t have to be grieving a death to benefit from spiritual counseling.
Some of the most profound grief I see in my practice comes from transitions that the outside world doesn’t always recognize as losses. For example, maybe loss for you means:
- Leaving a career or identity that no longer fits.
- Ending a marriage or long-term relationship.
- Experiencing a spiritual awakening that turns your whole worldview upside down.
- Moving through a health diagnosis that changes everything.
- Outgrowing a version of yourself (even if it’s a good thing).
All of these experiences can bring up heavy emotions. All of these ask you deep questions about identity, purpose, and what comes next. And spiritual counseling for loss, grief and life transitions can be very supportive.
If You’re Going Through a Spiritual Awakening
Spiritual awakenings are often sparked by loss or big transitions. This can include a brush with mortality, a relationship that ends, or a burnout that brings you to your knees. They can feel exhilarating, overhwelming and terrifying all at once.
One of the most common things I hear from people in awakening is: “I feel like I don’t fit in my own life anymore, but I don’t know what the new version looks like yet.” That in-between place is real, and it’s a lot to navigate alone.
Spiritual counseling can help you understand what’s happening, stay grounded while things shift, and start to build a clear vision of what your most aligned life actually looks and feels like.
If Your Career or Identity Is in Flux
When a job or career that once felt meaningful starts to feel like a costume you’re wearing, or when burnout strips away all the “shoulds” and leaves you staring at the question of what you actually want, there’s a big time of reckoning that happens.
It’s also what spiritual counseling is literally designed for.
We can use the Akashic Records to get clear on your life purpose or legacy, identify what beliefs or patterns have been driving your choices (and whether they’re still true for you), and help you move toward work and a life that genuinely lights you up… not just on paper, but in your body and soul.
If Your Heart Is Broken
Heartbreak is grief. Full stop. You’ve probably even heard of broken heart syndrome, where someone can experience a severe illness or even die following significant heartbreak. I believe my own grandfather experienced this, dying of a heart attack just weeks before his wife/my grandmother died of cancer.
The truth is, the end of a significant relationship (a marriage, a business partnership, or even a lifelong friendship) can shake your sense of self to the core.
With relationship loss, we can use spiritual counseling to process emotions, explore the soul-level lessons and gifts of the relationship, heal the energy patterns that may have drawn you into the dynamic, and help you reclaim a strong, clear sense of who you are. The goal is to move into your next chapter with intention rather than just reaction.

What This Looks Like in Practice: Inner Initiation
If this resonates and you’re wondering what spiritual counseling looks like in real life, let me share a bit about how I work!
Inner Initiation is my 3-month 1:1 spiritual coaching and mentorship program, and it’s honestly one of my favourite things I offer. It’s designed for people who are at a real turning point, such as navigating a transition, a loss, a spiritual awakening, or just a deep knowing that something needs to change, and who are ready for real, personalized support to move through it.
Here’s what’s included:
- 6 bi-weekly spiritual counseling sessions (90 minutes each, with recordings so you can revisit them anytime).
- Unlimited email and/or Telegram support Monday-Friday. Ask questions, check in, share breakthroughs, and connect between sessions when you need a little extra support.
- Personalized tools and practices tailored to exactly what you’re working through.
What we can work on together includes:
- Navigating grief, loss, and life transitions with clarity and support;
- Healing emotional patterns and ancestral wounds;
- Developing and trusting your intuition;
- Figuring out your life purpose and soul path;
- Setting healthy, energetic boundaries (especially if you’re an empath or highly sensitive person);
- Career and business guidance from a soul-aligned perspective; and,
- Integrating spiritual practice into your everyday life.
What makes this different from a one-off intuitive reading or session? The ongoing support. You don’t just get intuitive insight; you get help actually integrating and living it. We meet for a spiritual counseling session every two weeks, and in between, you have me in your corner.
Real talk: If you've ever had a great intuitive reading or session and then thought "okay but now what do I actually DO with this?", that's exactly the gap this program fills. Insight is beautiful, but integration is where the real transformation happens.
Want to explore if it’s the right fit for you? I’d love to chat! You can discover the details here, or book a free Connection Call here, and we’ll figure it out together.
Is Spiritual Counseling for Loss, Grief and Life Transitions Right for You?
You might be the perfect fit for spiritual counseling if any of these feel true:
- You’re in the middle of a big life change and feeling lost, stuck, or like you can’t quite see the path forward.
- You’re grieving (a death, a relationship, a career, or a version of yourself, etc.) and you sense that something deeper is being asked of you.
- You keep repeating the same patterns in your relationships or life, and you suspect the roots go deeper than psychology.
- You’re going through a spiritual awakening and finding it equal parts exciting and overwhelming.
- You feel disconnected from your purpose, and you’re craving a more soul-aligned life.
- You’re highly sensitive or empathic and struggling to navigate the world without burning out.
- You’re working with a therapist, and it’s helping, but you feel like something is missing (perhaps something more energetic or soulful).
- You’re curious about the Akashic Records and want to experience what working with them can actually do for you.
If you nodded at even two or three of those? Hi. I think we should talk! 👋
How to Find a Spiritual Counselor You Actually Trust
The spiritual counseling space is wide and varied, and not all practitioners are created equal. Here’s what I’d suggest looking for:
- Proper training in their modalities.
Whether they work with the Akashic Records, energy healing, somatic tools, or something else entirely, look for someone who’s done real, formal training. Intuition is great; solid skills AND intuition are better.
- A vibe that resonates with you.
Spiritual counseling is deeply personal, and the relationship matters enormously. You want to feel genuinely seen and supported, not judged or pushed toward a particular belief system. Read their content, watch their videos, and get a feel for their energy. Trust your gut here!
- Honesty about what they do and don’t do.
A good spiritual counselor will be upfront that their work isn’t therapy and won’t try to replace mental health care. If someone is positioning themselves as a quick fix or cure-all, proceed with caution.
- A free call or consultation.
Most reputable practitioners offer a free discovery call before you invest in a program. Take advantage of it! It’s your chance to ask questions, feel the connection, and make sure you’re a good fit for each other. You can find mine here.
Your Grief Isn’t Something to Fix
I want to close with this, because I think it matters: your grief isn’t a problem to be solved. It’s a testament to how much you’ve loved, how deeply you’ve lived, and how seriously you are taking this moment of transition and change.
Spiritual counseling, and the Akashic Records in particular, won’t bypass your grief or shortcut the process. What they will do is walk with you through it, help you make sense of it, and show you that on the other side of this, there is still so much life waiting for you.
You don’t have to figure it out alone. You don’t have to “be okay” before you ask for support. You can come exactly as you are (messy, confused, tender, anxious, excited, ready!) and we’ll work with all of it.
When you’re ready, Inner Initiation is here.
And if you want to take the first step, you can always book a free Connection Call. No commitment, just a conversation. I’d love to meet you and hear about what you’re wrestling with!
With so much love and support,
Ashleigh
