Intuitive development courses can teach us a lot, but some things we just have to experience for ourselves. For example, have you ever had a feeling that you couldn’t quite explain, but you also couldn’t ignore? Maybe it was a nudge to take a different route home… a sudden knowing that your bestie needed to hear from you… or hearing a clear yes in your head, even as your logical mind was starting to protest.
That’s your intuition!
And it has a great deal to say.
The challenge is that intuitive guidance isn’t loud. It doesn’t shout over your to-do list or compete with the endless scroll of social media. Instead, it whispers. It taps you on the shoulder in subtle, and sometimes surprising, ways.
Your intuition can communicate through your body, your dreams, your energy, and those strange “coincidences” that seem almost too perfectly timed to be random.
Why Is It So Hard to Trust Our Intuition?
We live in a world that prizes logic, data, and external proof. We’ve been conditioned to ask: “But can you prove it?”. Rather than trusting something we feel in our very DNA, our bones and our blood.
So it’s no wonder many of us have learned to talk ourselves out of our intuitive hits… or worse, stopped noticing them altogether!
But here’s what I know to be true after many years of working with highly sensitive clients: intuition is not a mystical gift reserved for the psychically gifted. It’s a natural intelligence we all carry. It’s the accumulated wisdom of your lived experience, your deeper knowing, and your inner guidance, all working together to help you navigate life. And most importantly, intuition is a skill we can all develop!
The question isn’t whether you are or are not intuitive. You are. The question is: can you actually access, understand, and most importantly, act on the intuitive wisdom you’re receiving?
This post will help you recognize 9 signs that you’re ready to take intuitive development courses (even if, and especially if, you don’t trust yourself yet!).
Whether you’re brand new to this work or you’ve been on a spiritual path for years, these subtle signs will help you tune in to the channel that’s always been broadcasting… just for you!
What Is Intuition, Really?
I’ve talked about tips to develop your intuition & what it is, but let’s clear up a common misconception: intuition is not the same as wishful thinking, anxiety, or impulse. Intuition doesn’t feel like stress or panic. And it certainly doesn’t sound like the inner critic who’s always finding reasons to hold you back. (That’s normally the job of your ego, keeping you safe in your comfort zone).
Intuition is a subtle, sudden awareness, information, or knowing that arrives, in your brain or body (or both!), without any clear path or logic.
Psychologists sometimes refer to this as thin-slicing, which reflects our brain’s ability to make quick assessments based on vast stores of pattern recognition. Scientists who study the gut-brain connection know that the enteric nervous system houses millions of neurons and can process information independently of the brain. Spiritual teachers might call this same awareness inner guidance, the Higher Self, or the soul speaking.
Whatever lens you use, the evidence is clear: we are far more than our conscious minds, and there is wisdom available to us that transcends rational analysis. So, intuition bridges what you know intellectually and what you know at a deeper, more ancestral level.
Why Do We Stop Listening to Our Intuition?
So, the million-dollar question is: if intuition is so natural and so wise, why do so many of us struggle to access or understand it?
The answer is layered, but it often comes down to a few key beliefs.
For example, you might have said or thought:
- I’ve been told my feelings are wrong or untrustworthy.
- Logic is what matters in the real world.
- I’m afraid of what my intuition might tell me.
- What if I’m just making it up?
- I don’t want to seem ‘woo-woo.’
Be honest, do any of these ring a bell? These are incredibly common beliefs, and completely understandable.
Many of us grew up in households where our gut wisdom or knowing wasn’t valued. As children, we might have felt like our sensitivity was a liability rather than a gift. You might even have been told that trusting yourself was not allowed, naive or even arrogant. There are countless coming-of-age stories with world-renowned psychics who share similar experiences.
As a result of these experiences and conditioning, we may override our inner signals. We second-guess ourselves. We look outside for answers that are already within us. And we wait for permission or advice from people who may know far less about us and our situation than we do!
The good news is, you can change.
And if I know anything at all, it’s that intuition is like a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets. The first step is simply learning to recognize it when it comes.
9 Signs You’re Ready for Intuitive Development Courses
So, let’s talk about some of the specific ways your intuition is already communicating with you, and whether taking intuitive development courses can help you develop your intuitive gifts.
1. A Sudden “Knowing” Without Evidence
You can’t explain it, but you just know something. Intuitive information arrives fully formed… and may or may not seem logical. Maybe you know that someone is about to call before the phone rings. Or the phone rings and you instantly know who it is… (hey, I grew up before caller ID existed; this was an important skill to have when we only had one phone, 3 kids in the house, and my friends were calling!)
As an adult today, maybe you know that a business decision you’re about to make is wrong even when all the data says it’s right. Maybe you meet someone and immediately sense something about them that later turns out to be true.
This kind of intuitive information often feels different from the usual voice in your head. It rarely feels like I think or I wonder… it has more weight to it than that.
Unfortunately, our analytical minds can quickly jump to tear it apart. It’s easy to find reasons why something can’t be true. And sometimes those reasons can sound like something our parents, siblings, family, or friends have said to us:
- “But you don’t have any proof.”
- “That doesn’t make logical sense.”
- “You’re overthinking again.”
Learning to notice that intuitive hit before your mind gets involved is one of the most valuable intuitive skills you can develop.
Real-life Practice
Here’s a real-life practice to try for yourself.
When (potential) intuitive information or a sudden awareness comes to you, take a second before analyzing it. Just write it down immediately, exactly as it came to you. Forget about it. Then watch what unfolds.
2. Physical Sensations in Your Body
Your body is one of the most reliable intuitive instruments you have. It often receives intuitive signals before your conscious mind does.
And this isn’t “woo woo”. Research on somatic intelligence shows that the body processes and stores information, and that physical sensations can carry meaningful data about our environment, relationships, and choices.
Here are some common intuitive body signals:
- Goosebumps when you hear something that feels true or correct.
- A tightening in your gut when something is off, even before your mind has figured out why.
- A sense of expansion or lightness in the chest when something feels aligned.
- Nausea or constriction when something or someone is harmful or misaligned.
- A pulling sensation that draws you toward something without a clear reason.
The hardest part about intuitive body sensations is telling the difference between them and feelings like anxiety or excitement. They can often feel similar! However, intuitive signals tend to be clear, steady, and relatively brief. Anxiety might feel like spiralling or a loop you can’t get out of.
Real-life Practice
Before making a decision, big or small, take three slow breaths and tune into your physical response. Notice what your body says before your mind weighs in.

3. Recurring Thoughts or Dreams
If a thought, image, phrase, or theme keeps coming back to you, whether in your conscious life or in your dreams, your intuition is likely trying to get your attention. Your intuition will often communicate through repetition (especially when it hasn’t been heard or acted upon!).
This might look like:
- a specific person who keeps coming to mind for no apparent reason.
- a creative idea that keeps popping up, no matter how many times you push it aside.
- a dream with a recurring theme or symbol.
- song lyrics that keep playing in your head (especially if you’re thinking about a decision or question).
Dreams, in particular, can be powerful carriers of intuitive information. While the symbolic language of dreams can be personal and complex, paying attention to recurring themes can reveal what your deeper self is processing, longing for, or warning you about.
Real-life Practice
Keep a dream journal and a list of recurring thoughts on your phone. When something comes back more than three times, treat it as a message. You could ask, What might this be pointing to? What would it mean if I took this seriously?
4. Feeling Drawn to Something (or Someone)
For many people, intuitive guidance may not communicate via words or images. Instead, maybe it draws you toward a place, a person, an opportunity, or a path, even though you can’t consciously explain why.
You might recognize why immediately, or you might not. It might feel like, This is important or This matters to me, even though you have no conscious idea why.
Maybe there’s a retreat you feel called to attend. Or someone recommends a book, and then you see it all over social media (could also be that tricky algorithm, though!). Maybe you feel compelled to chat with a stranger in the grocery store or at the bus stop.
I always encourage my clients to trust what they are drawn to!
Real-life Practice
The next time you feel an unexplained pull toward something, allow yourself to explore it without commitment. What does this feel like? What would it mean to follow it even a little bit? No need to analyze or overthink!
5. Unexplainable Resistance
Just as your intuition can draw you toward something, it can also pull you away from something. You might feel a sudden, inexplicable no.
This could happen when you interview for a job that looks perfectly good on paper, but something feels off. A new opportunity that checks all the boxes but leaves you with unease. A plan that everyone else thinks is brilliant but that you can’t seem to get excited about.
This kind of resistance is often the most challenging feeling to trust. It runs counter to logic and can invite social pressure. When we can’t explain why we said no, we tend to override it. Then, later, we find ourselves saying, “I knew it. I felt uneasy about it from the get-go.” Usually followed by, “I should have listened to my gut after all!”
At the same time, not all resistance is intuition. (Remember I said this was a tricky one?)
Sometimes resistance is fear, avoidance, or old conditioning. Learning to distinguish between fear-based resistance and genuine intuitive resistance is one of the most important skills you can develop.
Keep in mind that fear-based resistance often has a story attached. Something like “I’m not good enough” or “It’ll never work out anyway.” Intuitive resistance is more neutral: if something isn’t aligned, you don’t need to reason or excuse to say no.
Real-life Practice
When you feel resistance, ask yourself: Is there a story beneath this? Or is this a quiet, clear no because this person/place/thing isn’t meant for me after all? Allow your intuitive guidance to respond.
6. Synchronicities and Signs
Carl Jung coined the term synchronicity to describe meaningful coincidences, or a situation “in which events happen at the same time in a way that is not planned or expected” [Brittanica Dictionary].
You think about someone, and they text you moments later.
You’re wrestling with a decision, and a book falls off the shelf, opening to the exact passage that provides guidance or advice. (This has happened to me more than a few times!)
You keep seeing the same number, animal, or symbol at key moments.
Skeptics might call this confirmation bias, as simply coincidences we’ve assigned meaning to after the fact. And that’s certainly worth considering.
But many people find that as they deepen their intuitive practice, synchronicities increase, almost as if our lives are responding and resonating as we pay better attention to them.
Whether you interpret synchronicities as literal messages from the universe or as your own consciousness noticing patterns it already senses, these experiences invite you to slow down, pay attention, and ask what meaning this moment might be offering.
Real-life Practice
Start noticing and recording synchronicities in your journal or the notes app on your phone. Just write down what was happening in your life when you noticed the synchronicities or coincidences. Over time, you may notice patterns that explain what your intuition is/was working to show you.
7. Out-of-the-Blue Ideas or Insights
You’re on a walk, or you’re half-asleep. Or maybe you’re in the shower or washing the dishes (most common place for me, especially since we haven’t had a dishwasher in years!). In that flow state, a fully formed idea appears. Some mystics will refer to these out-of-the-blue insights as downloads (especially if they are part of the millennial gen or younger, ah ha!).
These out-of-the-blue insights or ideas might be:
- The solution to a problem you’ve been puzzling over.
- A creative direction that finally feels right.
- Clarity about a relationship or situation that has been murky for months.
These Eureka moments are the brain’s default mode, doing what it does best. When in a relaxed or flow state, the brain will make connections when we stop consciously grasping for answers.
Many of history’s greatest insights in science, art, business, spirituality, and many more areas and industries have come this way.
Your intuition loves it when you’re receptive. It also loves spaciousness. It speaks most clearly when we quiet the noise. And if the Akashic Records have taught this Aries anything, we often just need to slow down and make space for our inner wisdom to land!
Real-life Practice
Make a decision to build more spaciousness and silence into your day with intention. And this is not something intuitive development courses can actually teach you! You need to experiment and see what works best for you.
For example, take a walk without headphones. Make art without the TV blaring as “company”. Meditate (preferably as much as possible). Take a few deep breaths before answering or checking your phone. Give your intuition room to share its wisdom by not filling every moment of your day with sensory input from OUTSIDE yourself.
8. Feeling Energetically Drained or Energized
Did you know? Your energy is one of the most honest and powerful tools you have at your disposal.
If you aren’t already, start noticing how you feel after spending time with certain people. Do you feel expanded and alive, or drained and depleted? How about certain work environments, creative projects, or daily routines?
Intuition often speaks through your energy or vitality. Your energy (or lack of it) can signal whether you are aligned with someone or something (or not).
Does someone or something cost you energy (that feels draining), or does it leave you feeling more like yourself? Does it dim your light or brighten it?
Tune into your energy, especially for long-term decisions: your relationships, career/finances, hobbies and interests, life purpose or legacy, etc.
Your logical mind can make a strong case for choices that your own natural energy knows aren’t right for you.
Real-life Practice
After a significant interaction or activity, check in with your energy. Rate how you feel on a simple scale (0-10, colours, etc.). Over time, you’ll notice insights about what your energy and intuitive guidance are already telling you.
9. A Sense of Peace Amid Chaos
Here’s one final sign, and it’s probably not something that most intuitive development courses will teach you. It also might be one of intuition’s most beautiful and least expected gifts. Intuition can ground us when our circumstances are anything but certain.
For example, you’re in the middle of something difficult like a transition, a loss, or an unknown event. But underneath it all, at the end of the day, you know you’re going to be absolutely okay. This isn’t toxic positivity, and it’s not about pretending everything is fine. It’s an underlying feeling that everything will be OK, no matter what happens.
When this feeling of peace arises, pay attention. It may offer information or advice to help you navigate your way through a difficult or traumatic experience. It may help you understand or adjust to the new path… and your inner self may be reassuring you that something good is about to come from something difficult. (Picture the lotus flower growing through mud and/or muddy water!)
