Have you ever wondered how certain healing music frequencies can instantly calm your nerves or give you a boost of energy?
It’s not just woo-woo; there’s fascinating science behind how different healing music frequencies affect us.
While researchers continue to explore the effects of healing frequencies, ancient wisdom and modern findings show some real benefits of sound for healing.
How I Came to Study Sound Healing
You may know that I completed my Sound Therapy Certification Training at the Institute of Traditional Medicine in 2022.
But did you know that before that, I had no musical background or training (unless you count playing the trumpet—very badly—in grade 5, and more recently, singing in the shower)?
Well, I saw an ad for this sound therapy course on Instagram and signed up immediately.
The course was four months long, with 200 hours of training and practical requirements, including over 20 hours of mandatory case studies.
On top of all that, there was a live teaching schedule that I had to commit to for the entire weekend… starting the very next day.
Luckily, I do my best to heed my intuition whenever possible! I knew I had to be in that class… So I moved mountains to sort my weekend out and secure child care.
I will tell you that I WEPT that first day of class. In every cell of my body, I felt a deep resonance and remembrance.
That training blew my mind and transformed both my personal and professional life forever!
Sound truly has the power to change our lives.
Some Historical Examples of Healing Music Frequencies
Long before modern science could measure sound waves, ancient cultures recognized the profound effects of sound on the human body and mind.
These civilizations intuitively understood what contemporary research is now beginning to confirm: sound and vibration influence our physical, emotional, and energetic states in remarkable, and often surprising, ways.
Pyramid Power in Ancient Egypt
The ancient Egyptians were masters of sound healing, using specially designed structures like pyramids to amplify vibrational frequencies.
Many historians believe ancient builders constructed pyramid chambers with acoustic precision. They believe these structures were designed so that sound could facilitate deep meditation and healing.
One example is the King’s Chamber in the Great Pyramid of Giza. This chamber could have been used for meditation, physical healing, divine communication, or other purposes.
Pythagoras’ Harmonics
The Greek philosopher Pythagoras (570–495 BC) has been called the “Father of Music”. He taught that musical intervals could be expressed through numerical ratios. This led him to believe that music was intrinsically connected to mathematics and universal harmony.
Pythagoras suggested music could be used as medicine, becoming the first person to prescribe it for healing purposes. He used rhythm, songs, and incantations to address physical and psychological ailments. He is also credited with coining words like cosmos and philosophy.
Shamanic Drumming
For thousands of years, many indigenous cultures have used shamanic drumming as a powerful therapeutic tool.
The steady rhythm of a drumbeat—played at 4 to 7 beats per second—entrains brainwaves into a theta state. This brainwave state is linked to deep relaxation, enhanced intuition, and emotional processing.
Even today, cultures from South America to Mongolia continue to use drumming to promote healing, clear energetic blockages, and facilitate spiritual journeys.
Tibetan Singing Bowls
Practitioners worldwide have used Tibetan singing bowls for centuries in meditation and healing. When played, these bowls create rich overtones and deep vibrations that harmonize with the body’s energy field. Monks and healers use them to balance energy centres in the body, offer pain relief, support emotional healing, and more.
From the tuning of ancient instruments to the rhythmic drumming of shamanism, these traditions reflect a universal understanding: sound is not just something we hear with our ears. Sound is something we feel and experience. At the same time, sound also profoundly affects our health and well-being.
Principles of Sound Healing and Healing Music Frequencies
Healing music frequencies are at the heart of sound therapy.
If you’ve heard of specific healing frequencies, you’ve probably heard of 432 Hz.
Even though 440 Hz has been the standard concert pitch since the 1930s, many argue that the 432 Hz frequency resonates more harmoniously with the natural world.
For one thing, 432 hz is mathematically consistent with patterns found in nature, such as the golden ratio and the Fibonacci sequence.
Musicians and sound therapists often describe 432 Hz as more grounding and soothing, suggesting it aligns better with the Earth and the natural frequencies and rhythms of life itself.
In addition, there are many benefits of music tuned to 432 Hz (instead of 440 Hz), such as:
- Deeper relaxation and reduced stress
- Enhanced mental clarity
- Better energy balance
- Improved sleep quality
- Greater sense of inner peace
Sound therapy isn’t just about sound that “sounds good”. For example, isochronic tones don’t sound very good to my ears! That said, I know they work.
Instead, sound therapy is about understanding how sound waves interact with us and other living systems. Healing music frequencies tap into the body’s inherent ability to heal through resonance.
Every cell in our body vibrates at specific frequencies. When we introduce external frequencies—like those in sound therapy—we essentially “speak” to our cells, influencing and shifting their natural vibrations. These interactions between sound and our body can lead to profound changes.
By using specific healing frequencies consciously and with intention, we can support our own personal and spiritual growth. Sound healing is therefore another tool for self-healing and self-empowerment (and that’s what I’m all about)!
Solfeggio Healing Music Frequencies
Solfeggio tones are another well-known group of frequencies that are worth mentioning. These ancient sound frequencies date back to medieval Europe and are believed to have profound healing and spiritual properties. Sound therapists often use these healing frequencies to promote balance and harmony within the body, mind, and spirit.
Here are the main Solfeggio frequencies and some of their potential benefits:
- 396 Hz: Known as the “liberation frequency”, this frequency is said to help release fear and guilt. It also helps ground us in the present moment. This one is associated with the root chakra.
- 417 Hz: This frequency is said to help clear negative energy, thoughts, and blockages. This one is associated with the sacral chakra.
- 528 Hz: Often called the “miracle frequency”, this frequency is said to be associated with stress relief, sleep improvement, and DNA repair, among other things. This one is associated with the solar plexus chakra.
- 639 Hz: This frequency is said to support love, harmonious relationships, and emotional balance. This one is associated with the heart chakra.
- 741 Hz: This frequency is said to support emotional and spiritual detox. It may help with cleansing toxins. This one is associated with the throat chakra.
- 852 Hz: This frequency is associated with intuition, spiritual insight, and higher consciousness. This one is associated with the third eye chakra.
- 963 Hz: This frequency is said to help us connect to cosmic communication and consciousness. It may help activate the pineal gland. This one is associated with the crown chakra.

The Science Behind Healing Music Frequencies
Modern science is finally catching up to what ancient wisdom has known for millennia: sound has tangible, even measurable, effects on the human body, mind, and spirit.
Research into healing frequencies is finding fascinating connections between sound waves and brain activity, cellular repair, and emotional regulation, among so many other benefits.
Brainwave Entrainment
As I mentioned earlier, different sound frequencies can entrain brainwaves. This can shift mental states and promote relaxation, focus, or other benefits.
What does it mean to “entrain brainwaves”?
Well, brainwave, or neural, entrainment, is a process by which our brain naturally synchronizes to the repetition or rhythm of an external source, such as music or lights. Some people also refer to this as brainwave synchronization.
This is a wonderful video on how brainwave entrainment can work (and help heal).

Brainwave States
There is some debate about each brainwave range. However, these are good sample ranges for each brainwave and its associated states.
- Delta Waves (0–4 Hz) → Slowest brainwaves, usually deep sleep, healing, and regeneration
- Theta Waves (4–8 Hz) → Meditation, intuition, creativity (this is the best state to be in if you want to reprogram your mind, and all of my Inner Healer Library bundles include theta tracks)
- Alpha Waves (8–12 Hz) → Relaxed awareness, light meditation
- Beta Waves (12–35 Hz) → Active thinking, problem-solving (we spend most of our day in beta!)
- Gamma Waves (35+ Hz) → Fastest brainwaves, usually peak mental performance, intense concentration, higher consciousness
Listening to specific frequencies can help “entrain” or synchronize your brain to these states.
You can also use things like binaural beats (two tones played at slightly different frequencies in each ear) or isochronic tones (single tones that turn on and off regularly) for the same purposes.
Hopefully this helps explain how practical sound healing can be based on what you hope to achieve.

How to Start Playing with Healing Music Frequencies
If you’re new to healing music frequencies, here are some ways to start using sound for healing:
- Start with the OG Frequency. Use 432 Hz music during a familiar activity like reading or gentle stretching. Notice how it affects your mood and energy levels.
- Keep a Sound Diary. Document your experiences with different frequencies. What times of day feel most beneficial? Which frequencies resonate most strongly with you?
- Experiment with Duration. Start with short sessions (5-10 minutes) and gradually increase as you become more familiar with how your body responds. I will tell you that I had VERY strong, sometimes uncomfortable physical sensations to my Inner Healer Library Abundance, Prosperity and Wealth track when I first started listening to it. It took me months to work up to sessions of more than 10 minutes at a time. My body was physically responding to the track, but I had to start slowly.
- Mix and Match. Try combining different healing music frequencies throughout your day based on your activities. For example, instead of listening to music or podcasts while you cook, you could listen to Inner Healer Library healing music frequencies that promote Optimal Health, Self-love, Confidence, Self-worth and Self-esteem, or even Weight Loss.
Understanding the Limitations
It’s important to maintain a balanced perspective and reasonable expectations when it comes to healing music frequencies. Like most complementary therapies, sound therapy isn’t a replacement for medical treatment.
Instead, it supports your OVERALL wellness.
Have fun and experiment with sound healing in your toolbox of complementary health strategies.
The Future of Frequency Healing
The future of frequency and sound healing, as they say, looks bright! (Even if lately it hasn’t always felt that way).
As technology evolves and advances, we’ll discover new ways to use sound therapy and healing music frequencies. Already the advancements in my 40+ years on the planet are impressive!
From precise frequency-generating devices to sophisticated brainwave entrainment programs, the tools for sound healing are becoming more accessible and refined.
Bridging Ancient Wisdom and Modern Science
At the end of the day, healing frequencies offer a profound way to explore the intersection of sound, consciousness, and health and wellbeing.
Whether through ancient instruments, modern binaural beats, or frequency-based therapies, sound healing can be a powerful tool for stress relief, emotional balance, and overall vitality.
The most powerful aspect of working with healing music frequencies is how they bridge ancient wisdom with contemporary science.
Our ancestors might not have had the technology to measure hertz and wavelengths. Nevertheless, they understood the profound impact of sound on human consciousness, health, happiness, and wellbeing.
Remember that just as every instrument has its unique timbre, every person responds differently to frequencies. What works beautifully for your spouse or child might not resonate with you. Always trust your intuition and pay attention to what resonates with you personally.
Ultimately, the most powerful healing happens when we experience it for ourselves.
