Picture this: You’re standing in the vitamin aisle, phone in hand, comparing five different magnesium supplements.
One article says magnesium glycinate is best. Your bestie swears by magnesium threonate. And the “Instagram wellness expert” you follow recommends something completely different… probably citrate (but I digress 😝.)
So you Google it. Again. Hopefully to get some clarity about the best option for you.
But 30 minutes later, you’re more confused than ever… and you still don’t know which type of magnesium YOUR body actually wants & needs.
The Missing Piece is Your Body Wisdom
Here’s the truth most people never realize, and if they do, they have a hard time trusting it: your body already knows the answer.
Your body knows which foods give you energy and which ones drain you.
It knows which supplements it needs and which ones are just expensive urine.
It knows whether that morning routine everyone’s raving about is right, or completely wrong, for you.
Body wisdom, in fact, is the innate intelligence your body holds. It’s the same body intelligence that runs your heartbeat, digests your food, and heals your cuts and bruises without you having to think about it.
But when it comes to making conscious health decisions, we’ve forgotten how to tap into this powerful resource.
We’ve been taught to trust everything except ourselves!
We’ve Lost Touch with the Body’s Intelligence
We trust Google more than our gut feelings…
We trust influencers more than our own inner wisdom…
We trust the latest study more than the body intelligence that’s been guiding us since birth.
This disconnection didn’t happen overnight. Modern life has trained us to prioritize external information over internal signals. We’ve become experts at analyzing data while becoming novices at reading our own bodies.
But what if you could cut through all that nonsense?
What if, instead of trial-and-error with supplements, you could access your body wisdom to discover what you need?
What if, instead of forcing yourself through a routine that works for someone else, you could use body intelligence to discover what YOUR body is actually asking for?
Understanding Body Wisdom: The Intelligence Within
For thousands of years, people have used techniques like dowsing, pendulum work, and muscle testing to tap into their body’s innate intelligence. These practical tools help you bypass mental chatter and access the wisdom your body holds.
Think of it like this: your body is constantly sending you signals. Most of the time, we only notice the loud ones—pain, hunger, exhaustion. But your body is also communicating on a subtler level, responding to foods, supplements, environments, and choices in ways that can guide you toward what truly serves you.
Body wisdom is practical intuition in action.
Intuition Training to Learn Your Body’s Language
Developing body intelligence requires intuition training. It requires learning to recognize and trust your body’s signals. Just like learning any new language, it takes practice, but the results can be life-changing.
Here are a few techniques for accessing your body wisdom:
The Sway Test
Stand with your feet grounded and ask your body a yes/no question. Notice if you naturally sway forward (yes) or backward (no). This simple form of intuition training provides quick answers for everyday decisions.
Pendulum Dowsing
I have been dowsing with a pendulum for over 10 years now and it’s a powerful tool for your intuition training toolbox! Using a pendulum amplifies the subtle movements of your body intelligence, making it easier to receive clear guidance. This technique is helpful for exploring deeper questions about foods, supplements, and lifestyle choices.
Muscle Testing
Muscle testing, which is also known as applied kinesiology, uses your body’s strength response to determine what supports or weakens you. This hands-on approach to body wisdom can help you identify food sensitivities, choose supplements, and make personalized health decisions.
The Power of Body Wisdom in Daily Life
Imagine having access to your body intelligence whenever you need it.
For example:
In the supplement aisle: Instead of spending 30 minutes researching, you use body wisdom techniques to know within seconds which product/brand/dosage your body needs & wants.
At mealtime: Rather than following someone else’s meal plan, you tap into your body intelligence to discover what will truly nourish you in that moment.
Planning your routine: You design your day based on what your body actually needs through intuition training, not what some social media “expert” with affiliate links a mile long recommends.
Making health decisions: You combine medical advice with your own body wisdom, adding another layer of personalized intelligence to the equation.
This is absolutely NOT about replacing medical advice or ignoring science. It’s about adding your body’s intelligence, the most personalized health data you have, to your life, health, and well-being.
This is what becomes possible when you develop strong body intelligence skills.

If you’re ready to stop guessing and start tuning into exactly what your body needs, Your Body Knows Best will teach you practical techniques to access your body wisdom with confidence.

How to Start Developing Your Body Intelligence Today
Ready to begin your intuition training journey?
Here are two simple exercises to start accessing your body wisdom right now.
1. The Basic Body Wisdom Sway Test
This foundational technique helps you establish your body’s yes/no signals.
- Stand up straight with your feet hip-width apart and grounded.
- Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to centre yourself.
- Say in your mind, or out loud (even better): “Show me a yes.” Notice what happens. You might sway forward slightly, feel your chest lift or stand taller, a feeling of warmth, etc.
- Now say: “Show me a no.” (Again, in your mind or out loud). Notice again what happens. Maybe you step or sway back, feel tightness, sense resistance, or a feeling of cool or cold.
That’s it. You just had a two-word conversation with your body intelligence. Yay!
The key to making this a reliable tool is consistent practice. Over time, these micro-movements and sensations become unmistakable. You’ll start to feel your body wisdom answering before your mind can interfere.

Your info is safe with me. I will guard it with my life and promise no spam, ever. I genuinely hate it as much as you do!
2. The Food Body Wisdom Test
Once you’ve practiced the basic sway test a few times, try this practical way to use your body’s intelligence. You’ll need two different foods or beverages (for example, an apple and a cookie, or water and coffee).
How to do it.
- Stand in your neutral position with both items nearby.
- Hold the first item in your hands, or place it against your chest or your belly. (Note: if you have any gut issues or your digestion is a mess, I would avoid using the belly as a reference spot).
- Close your eyes and take a breath.
- Now, ask your body: “Is this beneficial for me right now?” Notice how your body responds. Do you sway forward (yes) or backward (no)? Do you feel expansion or contraction? Do you sense a different feeling or sensation that guides you in the right direction?
- Set that item down and wait a moment to reset. You may want to take a deep breath or gently shake your body out.
- Repeat this test with the second item.
- Compare the responses… how did you do?
This exercise teaches you to use body wisdom for real-world decisions.
You might be surprised when your body says “no” to something you thought was healthy, or “yes” to something you’ve been avoiding.
Remember, your body intelligence helps you tune into what YOU need in this specific moment, and NOT what’s theoretically healthy for everyone.
Pro tip: Start with choices where you don’t have a strong preference or emotional attachment. This makes it easier to perceive your body’s true signals without mental interference clouding your intuition training.
As you practice this food body wisdom test regularly, you’ll develop faster, clearer communication with your body intelligence. Eventually, you might not even need to hold the items. You’ll simply think about a food and feel your body’s response instantly.
Common Challenges When Developing Body Wisdom (And How to Overcome Them)
As you begin your intuition training journey, you may encounter some obstacles. Here are a few of them, and here’s how to work through them.
1. “I don’t feel anything.”
This is the most common challenge when starting body intelligence work. If you’re not feeling clear signals. Try to:
- Practice daily. Body wisdom develops like any skill, and consistency matters more than duration. Even 2-3 minutes daily is better than occasional longer sessions.
- Reduce stimulation. Try practicing first thing in the morning before caffeine, or in a quiet space away from screens and distractions.
- Exaggerate the response. Intentionally sway forward and backward to teach your body the movements. This creates a physical memory that makes subtle signals easier to recognize.
- Trust micro-sensations. Your body might communicate through very subtle feelings. You might feel a slight warmth, a tiny shift in breathing, or a barely perceptible lean. These small signals are valid.
2. “My mind interferes with the answers.”
Mental chatter is normal, especially when asking questions you care deeply about. To strengthen your body intelligence:
- Start with neutral questions: Practice with choices that don’t matter much to you emotionally (like which book to read next, not whether to quit your job).
- Notice the first response: Your body wisdom typically answers within 1-2 seconds. Anything after that is usually mental analysis.
- Use the phrase “Show me” instead of “Should I”: This puts your conscious mind in observer mode rather than decision-making mode.
3. “I get inconsistent answers.”
If your body wisdom seems to change its mind:
- Check your question phrasing. Vague questions get vague answers. “Is this good for me?” is less specific than “Will this food support my energy right now?”
- Consider timing. Your body’s needs change throughout the day. Coffee might be a “yes” at 8 a.m. and a “no” at 8 p.m. Both are valid!
- Rule out tiredness. Body intelligence requires energy. If you’re exhausted, signals may be unclear. Practice when you’re rested.
And I teach in depth about how to improve your results in Your Body Knows Best!
4. “It feels too simple to be real.”
Many people doubt body wisdom because the techniques seem almost too easy. Remember that:
- Your body has been communicating this way your entire life. You’re just learning to consciously tune in.
- Simple doesn’t mean ineffective. Your body’s signals don’t need to be complicated to be accurate.
- Trust builds with practice. Start with small, verifiable decisions and watch your confidence grow.
The key to overcoming all these challenges is gentle, consistent practice paired with curiosity rather than pressure. Your body intelligence is always there; sometimes it just takes patience to hear it clearly.
