Let’s be SO for real: when you first hear about something called the “Akashic Records”, it sounds like something out of a fantasy novel. Ancient mystical library? Soul’s journey across lifetimes? Accessing universal wisdom? Yeah, I totally get why that might raise a few eyebrows. It really needs better marketing for those of us who are allergic to BS.
But the Akashic Records are actually one of the most practical, grounded tools I’ve found for understanding yourself and creating real change in your life.
So let’s talk about what the Akashic Records actually are, how they work, and why they might be worth exploring… even if you roll your eyes at crystals and oracle cards.
What ARE the Akashic Records? (The Straight Answer)
The Akashic Records are an energetic database of information about your soul, past, present, and potential futures. Think of it like the Internet, but instead of cat videos and conspiracy theories, it contains insights about your patterns, purpose, relationships, gifts, and the experiences that have shaped you across all your lifetimes.
The Akashic Records Explained
The term “Akashic” comes from the Sanskrit word “Akasha”, which means “ether” or “space”. This refers to an energetic field that holds all information. Various cultures and spiritual traditions have different names for this concept, such as the Book of Life, the Cosmic Library, Universal Consciousness, or Source Wisdom.
But forget the fancy names for a second. What really matters is that the Akashic Records are a tool for accessing information that your conscious mind doesn’t readily have access to.
Here’s an analogy that might help.
Your conscious awareness is like the apps you have open on your phone right now.
Your subconscious is like all the files stored on your phone.
The Akashic Records are like the entire cloud where everything (every photo you’ve ever taken, every note you’ve ever written, every search you’ve ever made, etc.) is stored and accessible if you know how to “log in”.
How Do the Akashic Records Actually Work?
An Akashic reading is when someone trained in accessing the Records (called an Akashic Records guide, reader or practitioner) opens your specific Akashic Records and channels information from them.
The Technical Part (Stay With Me)
As I mentioned recently, the Akashic Records require your full legal name and a specific protocol or prayer that sets the intention to connect with your soul’s information. Different readers use different methods, but they all serve the same purpose of creating a clear channel to access your Records.
Once the Records are open, the Akashic reader can ask questions on your behalf and receive answers. Some readers see images or symbols, others hear words or phrases, some just “know” information. It’s similar to how some people learn best by reading, others by listening, and others by doing… everyone’s intuitive channel is a little different.
What You Can Actually Learn from the Akashic Records
During an Akashic reading, you can ask about virtually anything affecting your current life, such as:
- Patterns you keep repeating: Why do I always attract emotionally unavailable partners? Why do I self-sabotage right before success?
- Career and purpose questions: What am I meant to be doing? What gifts do I have that I’m not using?
- Relationship dynamics: What’s the deeper purpose of my relationship with my mother? Why does my business partner trigger me so much?
- Health issues: What emotional or energetic factors are contributing to my chronic pain? What does my body need?
- Blocks and fears: Where does my fear of public speaking come from? What’s stopping me from pursuing my dreams?
- Past-life influences: Have I done this work before? What talents did I develop in other lifetimes that I can tap into now?
Real Client Example (without getting weird, and YES I have permission to share this)
A client came to me terrified of water. Not just an “I’m afraid of swimming” fear; she actually had panic attacks near large bodies of water. Through her Records, we discovered a past-life drowning experience. Once she understood the origin of her fear, she could work with it consciously. Within months, she was comfortable near water again.
Now, whether you believe that was an actual past life or her subconscious mind creating a useful metaphor doesn’t really matter. What matters is that it worked. The insight and most of all, the awareness, allowed for energy to move and heal the pattern.

But How Can This Be Real?
Fair question. Here are a few perspectives to help us make sense of the Records.
The Quantum Physics Perspective
Modern physics has shown us that everything is energy vibrating at different frequencies. Information can be stored in energy fields. That’s literally how Wi-Fi, radio, and your phone work. The idea that information about consciousness could also be stored in an energetic field isn’t really that far-fetched when you think about it.
Quantum physics also tells us that the observer affects the observed, that time isn’t as linear as we think, and that everything in the universe is fundamentally connected. The Akashic Records align with these principles more than contradict them.
The Psychology Perspective
Even if you’re not sold on the metaphysical explanation, Akashic readings can be understood through a psychological lens.
Carl Jung talked about the collective unconscious, or shared human experiences and archetypes that we all tap into. The Akashic Records might be understood as accessing this collective wisdom alongside your personal unconscious patterns.
When information comes through in an Akashic reading, it’s activating deeper parts of your psyche that your conscious mind hasn’t accessed. Whether that information is “really” from past lives or from your deep subconscious doesn’t change its therapeutic value.
The Pragmatic Perspective
Here’s my take: I don’t need to fully understand how electricity works to benefit from having lights in my house. Similarly, you don’t need to understand the exact mechanism of the Akashic Records to benefit from the insights they provide.
What I know is that when people access their Akashic Records, they consistently gain clarity, healing, and practical guidance that creates real positive change in their lives. That’s what matters.
A note for my skeptics: You don’t have to believe in past lives, you don’t have to believe in reincarnation, and you certainly don’t have to believe the information is coming from some cosmic database. You can think of it as a deep dive into your subconscious through guided intuition. The practical benefits remain the same.

Your info is safe with me. I will guard it with my life and promise no spam, ever. I genuinely hate it as much as you do!
What Makes the Akashic Records Different From Other Modalities
Vs. Therapy
Therapy primarily focuses on your current-life experiences, psychological patterns, and mental health. It’s clinical, evidence-based, and primarily talks about the problems. Akashic readings look at your soul’s bigger picture, often revealing why certain patterns exist in the first place.
Vs. Psychic Readings
Psychic readings often focus on predicting future events or connecting with spirits. Akashic readings focus on your patterns, purpose, and potential. They’re not about fortune-telling; they’re about self-understanding and empowerment. The Records don’t tell you what’s going to happen; they show you possibilities and help you make informed choices.
Vs. Life Coaching
Traditional life coaching helps you set and achieve goals using strategic planning and accountability. Akashic readings add a spiritual dimension, helping you understand not just what you want to achieve, but why you’re here and what your soul is trying to accomplish. It’s coaching plus depth.
Useful, Real-life Benefits of Akashic Readings
Let’s get really practical. Here’s what clients consistently report after Akashic readings:
1. Understanding Why (Not Just What)
You finally understand WHY you do the things you do. Why you have certain fears, why you’re drawn to certain people or situations, why some things come easily and others feel impossible. This understanding alone is incredibly freeing.
2. Permission to Be Yourself
The Records often validate things you’ve always felt but dismissed as “weird” or “wrong.” They show you that your quirks and differences are actually gifts. This permission to be authentic changes everything.
3. Specific Action Steps
AMAZING, potentially life-changing Akashic readings don’t just give you vague spiritual platitudes. They provide concrete guidance:
- Start meditating for 10 minutes every morning.
- Have that difficult conversation with your sister.
- Apply for that position even though you feel unqualified.
Akashic guidance is practical, real-life stuff you can actually do.
4. Faster Healing
When you understand the root cause of an issue, you can address it directly instead of just managing symptoms. Many clients report that years of stuck patterns shift rapidly once they understand the deeper context through their Records.
5. Connection to Something Bigger
Even for skeptics, accessing the Akashic Records often creates a sense of connection to something larger than yourself. Not in a religious way necessarily, but in a “I’m part of something meaningful” way. That shift in perspective is powerful.

Who Benefits Most From Akashic Readings
Akashic readings aren’t for everyone, and that’s okay. They tend to be most valuable for people who:
- Are already self-aware and introspective (this work goes deeper when you’re willing to look honestly at yourself).
- Feel stuck in patterns they can’t break through traditional methods.
- Want to understand the “why” behind their behaviours, not just the “what”.
- Are open to unconventional approaches, even if they’re skeptical.
- Value personal growth and are willing to do the work.
- Feel like there’s something “more” to their life, but can’t articulate what.
- Are navigating major life transitions and need deeper guidance.
If you’re looking for someone to tell you exactly what to do, Akashic readings might frustrate you. They empower you to make your own choices based on deeper wisdom, but you still have to do the choosing and the doing.
What Akashic Readings Won’t Do
Let’s be clear about what Akashic Records readings will NOT do:
- They don’t predict winning lottery numbers or tell you exactly when you’ll meet your soulmate.
- They don’t fix your life without your participation. You still have to take action.
- They don’t replace medical care, therapy, or practical solutions to real-world problems.
- They don’t tell you what to do. They offer guidance and possibilities, but your free will is always respected.
- They won’t be read in exactly the same way by every Akashic reader. Different Akashic readers access information differently, and that’s normal, based on their intuitive and spiritual gifts. And this is something I teach in my foundational intuition training, Your Inner Communion, and my How to Read the Akashic Records courses.
Think of Akashic readings as one powerful tool in your toolkit for personal growth and healing. They work best when combined with other practical approaches, not as a replacement for them.
How to Approach Your First Akashic Reading (If You’re Still Skeptical)
If you’re intrigued but not convinced, here’s how to approach your first Akashic reading.
1. Go In With an Open Mind, Not Blind Faith
You don’t have to believe everything. Stay curious and discerning. Take what resonates, leave what doesn’t. The information should feel true to you, not imposed on you.
2. Come With Specific Questions
The more specific your Akashic questions, the more useful the answers. Instead of “What’s my purpose?” try “What’s blocking me from feeling fulfilled in my career?” Specific questions get specific guidance.
3. Give It Time to Integrate
Don’t judge the value of your Akashic reading in the moment. Sometimes the most profound insights don’t click until weeks or months later, when you see the pattern playing out or the guidance proves accurate.
4. Look for Practical Results
Judge the reading by its fruits. Did you gain clarity? Did the guidance help you make better decisions? Did you feel more at peace? Those are the metrics that matter, not whether you believe in the metaphysical explanation.

At the end of the day, the Akashic Records are a very practical tool
I’m not here to convince you that the Akashic Records are exactly what ancient mystics said they were, or to prove that past lives are real, or to make you believe anything you’re not comfortable believing.
What I am here to tell you is that the Akashic Records provide a unique way to access deep insight about yourself, your patterns, and your path forward. They’ve helped hundreds of my clients gain clarity, heal old wounds, understand themselves better, and make decisions aligned with their authentic selves.
The mechanism doesn’t matter nearly as much as the results. And the results speak for themselves.
